Welcome to “My Brain & I” (AKA my blog).

Why “My Brain and I”?

I read a thought-provoking book a while back entitled, “Solve For Happiness”. In it the author puts forth the idea that your thoughts are not really you. How’s that you ask? The logic is if you can be aware of your thoughts how can they be you? Well, where do your thoughts come from. I have come to the conclusion and subscribe to the idea that they come from my brain. Therefore, my brain cannot be me.  Of course, I’m very attached to my brain, I love him dearly and I see him as my best friend, my life-long companion.

You could be saying, “Rudy, you’re nuts.” (Like my wife does.) I hear you so allow me to explain. Have you ever been lying in bed and you want desperately to go to sleep but your brain says no. Your brain is insistent on keeping you awake with endless thoughts, ideas, worries, etc.? Exactly. I knew it. Point made. Proof positive your brain, like mine, is not you.

So I decided to run with that. I’m going to take my brain with me and explore the world. We’re going to share all that we learn as we dive into the subject of longevity (my brain and I are working hard to increase our health span), all things future and whatever else we decide to be curious about. We’re going to read books, watch films, shoot video interviews with smart, cool people and share with you all the interesting stuff we uncover. Feel free to think of us as kooky research scientists; we run experiments on ourselves using our time and money, find out what happens and is notable, and then provide you with the results in the form of text, images, audio and video.

Sound fun? Let’s do it.

It’s time to give myself credit.

As I stand here at the beginning of a new year, pondering what I’m going to do (and not do) this coming year, Brain reminded me of something… I did quite a lot this past year. I accomplished much. And as I look to the future, I believe it’s important to recognize and give myself credit for that which I did this past year,...

My Brain Explained
Aug 19, 2021

If you read the intro to my “My Brain and I” blog here on my website, you would know a little bit about why I titled my blog as such. Since I wrote that intro, I have been thinking more about this concept of “My Brain and I” and I have come to some additional conclusions that I would like to explain to you, should you be...

How Everyone Learns Everything
Jul 12, 2021

Have you ever wondered, how exactly do we learn? My Brain and I have. And so, we did some research. Turns out it’s a repeatable process that happens every time we set out to learn something new. Here’s what it is and how to make it work any time you want to learn something you know absolutely nothing about.

In the 1970’s,...

9 Questions to Ask Yourself That Will Get Your Passion>Inspiration Loop Spinning
Jul 06, 2021

What is it that awakens and drives both our creative and entrepreneurial spirit?

The answer: passion.

The word, desire may also come to mind.

Sometimes the words passion and desire are used interchangeably but I’d like to start by making a distinction.

Desire is external. We desire something outside of us. A person, a place, a thing.

Change isn’t easy and sometimes it just won’t wait.

In researching this post, Brain and I discovered something called, “logotherapy”. It’s a form of psychotherapy and its premise is the idea that humankind’s greatest motivation, and our greatest task, is our search for meaning2. The man who developed it, Dr. Viktor Frankl, did so from a place of unimaginable suffering.

Living In The Land Of In Between
May 10, 2021

A couple of years ago Kate, who is a good friend of mine (also my mentor and all-around awesome person), invited my wife I to spend a week with a wonderful group of people in a hundred-year-old estate just outside of Cork, Ireland. There were twelve of us in the group and the only ones we previously knew were Kate and her husband.

Each person or...

Leaders Create The Climate…And So Can You.
May 01, 2021

Over the years, my brain and I have co-founded two successful companies. Leading the charge was ever easy.

My first company was in the entertainment industry. Our primary focus was documentary production. The entertainment business being what it is, we always had quite a diverse group of people working with us, in both staff and freelance...

Why Chaos is Necessary
Apr 20, 2021

I have two words for you to consider:

Chaos and messy.

Some of us are completely comfortable with chaos and/or messiness.

Some of us not so much.

For those of you in the chaotic, messy camp… you’re going to love this.

For those of you that prefer life to be organized and tidy… perhaps not so much.

But, like it or not,...

I have Rudyisms. What do you have?
Apr 17, 2021

Ok, I’ll bet your first question is, “What exactly is a Rudyism?” I’m glad you asked.

Rudyisms are my truths. My guiding principles. The phrases my brain and I go-to when we’re stuck, frustrated, need a reminder as to what’s important or we’re in need of a calming, uplifting, logical perspective.

Are You The Entrepreneur of Your Life?
Apr 14, 2021

Entrepreneur is one of my favorite words. It can be interpreted in so many ways.

Let’s begin with the dictionary’s definition…
